About us:  Northern Nevada Development Authority (NNDA)

NNDA is one of 13 development agencies in Nevada and is the state’s “regional economic development authority.”

NNDA’s service area includes Carson City, Douglas, Lyon and Storey counties, with a total population of approximately 170,000. There are eight chambers of commerce, four visitors and convention organizations and a multitude of general improvement districts and citizen advisory councils in the region.

NNDA is funded by the state’s Nevada Commission on Economic Development, as well as funding from the counties and cities it serves, membership dues, grants ,and fund-raisers. The corporation is a federally tax exempt, not-for-profit organization governed by a working board of directors, made up of local government officials, county and city managers, business executives and for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. NNDA has ACTION ADVISORY COUNCILS that provide the human power for moving the organization forward.  Contact Tina Chin, NNDA's Investor Director, at (775) 883-4413 to discuss how you can get involved.

NNDA will improve the economic vitality and quality of life of northern Nevada and will promote the area as the premier market for business. NNDA assists through facilitation the relocation, retention, and expansion needs of clients and investors.

NNDA has three primary responsibilities: recruitment, retention, and expansion. It is a facilitator, partnering with companies interested in relocating to and expanding in the Sierra Region of Nevada. Through this partnership, NNDA brings resources such as educational institutions, industrial organizations, for-profit and not-for-profit groups and governmental bodies together to assist companies in relocating to, remaining or expanding in northern Nevada. Examples of NNDA services include:

  • Consolidate real estate information from NNDA Investors to meet client requirements

  • Act as agent for state tax incentives; assisting the client in the minimal application process; representing the client to local officials and the Nevada Commission on Economic Development

  • Introduce clients to appropriate individuals and organizations to address challenges or issues the client may have and to assist, where feasible, in helping to overcome those challenges

  • Maintain regular contact with existing businesses in its four-county area and prepare regular reports on business issues for specific industries

  • Conduct a variety of events, mixers and meetings to enhance communication, networking and community involvement

  • Services are provided at no cost to the client and, by NRS statute, completely confidential

NNDA’s Mission:
To facilitate the recruitment of new business and industry and the retention and expansion of existing businesses.

Vision:
To secure an abundant and sustainable economy for Northern Nevada where all its residents have the opportunity to grow in prosperity and realize their financial goals.

Purpose:
Economic development is essential to the residents of the four counties served by NNDA. The authority fulfills critical services for the region in support of job creation which includes “on the ground” activities designed to attract and secure new business to the region and to support existing businesses fostering expansion and retention of jobs. In addition, NNDA supports business startup improving their chance of success. Activities result in job creation, improved economic conditions for residents and businesses, and an improved tax base allowing critical services by local governments. NNDA provides a coordination effort from concept to execution at a cost basis that would not be achievable by any single state agency, county or municipality.

Philosophy:
Shared abundance. It’s not about what’s in it for me. It’s about our kids, our grandkids and the future of our community.

Values:
Behave decently because it the decent thing to do.   Behave decently because it works!

NNDA Regional Advisory Committees
NNDA has formed several key industry advisory committees. The purpose of these committees is to create an ongoing pool of resources with information for NNDA covering several different industries. The resources will provide information that will be used to assist NNDA with strategic regional planning, business recruitment, assisting companies with specific challenges, client services, creating jobs and finding solutions to education and workforce challenges throughout the region.

These committees will play a vital role in the overall growth, prosperity and development of northern Nevada. In addition, these committees will help NNDA identify challenges within each industry and work with other regional committees to create solutions and implement effective and lasting programs. The concept is to join the regions foremost experts and decision makers from various industries and create a region-wide line of communion for the purpose of overcoming past challenges and setting the foundation for a healthy and strong future for northern Nevada.

The key Advisory Committees are:

Banking & Finance
Business & Professional Services
Commercial Real Estate & Development
Manufacturing
(in cooperation with NVIE [Nevada Industry Excellence] formerly MAP)
Residential Relocation
Workforce & Education
Feasibility Analysis

Marketing & Media
Health Care

Technology

Distribution & Warehousing ( in process )
Community Resource ( in process )
Retail ( in process )

Each committee will choose a chair person and vice-chair to represent the committee. The person chosen to chair the committee will be offered a seat on the NNDA board of directors. This will allow a representation for every industry on the NNDA board and create a strong line of communication throughout NNDA’s investors.
